Lei Care

Preserving Your Lei

Gently spray or sprinkle your lei with water to keep it hydrated. Place in a sealed container or Ziploc bag on a damp paper towel and store in the fridge, ideally on the middle shelf and away from vents to prevent freezing.

Transporting Your Lei

Keep your lei in a sealed container or Ziploc bag and store in a cooler or insulated bag. Place a few ice packs around your lei with paper towels in between. Avoid direct contact between the ice packs and lei.

Disposing of Your Lei

Traditionally, leis were returned to the land when finished by placing it under a tree or releasing it into the ocean. While many strive to preserve this tradition, it is acceptable to remove the flowers from the string to bury or scatter them in nature. You can also hang your lei to dry and use as decor.

FAQs

How long will my lei last?

Fragrant lei such as tuberose or plumeria last 2-3 days while non-frgrant lei such as orchids or carnations can last up to a week. Ti leaf leis can last 7-10 days in the fridge and up to 2 months in the freezer.

How soon should I pick up my lei and will it stay fresh?

Lei pickup is typically the 1-2 days before the occasion date. Depending on the type of flower, your lei will stay fresh if preserved properly. See the lei care page for more information.
